General Manager Ken Schlimgen retired in July after 41 years of dedicated service to Intercounty Electric and Central Electric. In August, he was inducted into the South Dakota Cooperative Hall of Fame in recognition of his leadership and numerous contributions to the cooperative community.
Schlimgen began his cooperative career in 1985 as a member services advisor. He went on to serve as the manager of member services before becoming general manager in 2015, a position he held until he officially retired in 2026.
Throughout his career, Schlimgen helped guide the cooperative through significant changes in equipment, technology and regulations. Under his leadership, Central Electric invested in infrastructure upgrades and line replacement projects to strengthen the electric system and provide safe, reliable service for members.
While the industry changed considerably during his four decades of service, his commitment to putting people first remained constant. Schlimgen’s leadership strengthened the cooperative and helped build programs that will benefit members and local communities for years to come.
The South Dakota Cooperative Hall of Fame recognizes individuals whose dedication and accomplishments have made a lasting impact on cooperatives and the people they serve. Schlimgen’s induction is a fitting tribute to a career defined by service, leadership and commitment to the cooperative principles.
