Central Electric Cooperative recently assisted Mitchell Regional Habitat for Humanity in acquiring a low-interest loan from the Rural Electric Economic Development (REED) Fund for the new Habitat ReStore in Mitchell.

The organization has leased a 6,592-square-foot space where the ReStore will offer affordable building materials, appliances, furniture and home goods. The store is intended to serve Mitchell and surrounding rural communities.

Mitchell Regional Habitat for Humanity works with volunteers, contractors, churches, businesses and schools on home construction, repairs, accessibility projects and neighborhood revitalization. The Habitat ReStore offers another resource to support that work and help strengthen housing in the region.

The REED Fund was established in 1996 by electric cooperatives to help finance projects that strengthen local economies and improve quality of life. Central Electric was one of the electric cooperatives that helped create the fund. As borrowers repay their loans, the money becomes available for future projects.
